There has been coverage in the press over the past week. This has been in relation to the legality of the belly putter and the impeding ban. Over the next 3 years, they will be fazed out.
It is said that they give the golfer an advantage, but everyone is free to use them, so it is not really an advantage in my eyes. I think that 3 of the past 5 Major winners have used these putters and to some it is a problem.
One of the most famous golfers to affected by this will be Keegan Bradley (pictured to the left). He is a major winner and a big part of game was putting. So, from now on he will have to start practicing with a “Regular”, “Legal” putter.
I dont’t get this! It is all about the change and advances in golf technology and the design of putters is one of them.
If the belly putter is classed illegal, then what about state-of-the-art, customized golf clubs used by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy et al? There is no difference in my eyes and I think the rulers of the game should take a long, hard look at the decision they have made.
